I which I never returned!) I lived in Nottingham and Derby for a while and was born in Northern Ireland, but moved to England in 1985 (for a holiday fromworked as an Industrial Engineer at the Prestige group ( they make cookware) in Derby before going into the National Health Service and working at a Family Practitioner Committee in Derby and then at the Department of Heath’s Information Management Centre in Birmingham. I married in 1990 and gave up work in 1993 to look after my three boys who are now 14, 13 and 10 years old. My middle son has complex special needs including Down’s syndrome and Autism, as well as a variety of physical problems including partial deafness, visual impairment, incontinence, lack of speech and talipes. He currently attends a local special school – I hope that my experience with him will provide me with the empathy required in my current role as the group’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator). I moved to Sandbach in 1998, ran a local Mums and Tots group for a year and began working at Wesley Avenue pre-school playgroup in 2000, as a volunteer, when my youngest child started coming to the playgroup. I was officially employed in 2002 when they came to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to go of my own accord! |
